Militants barrage southern Israel

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip bombarded southern Israel with dozens of mortars and rockets on Wednesday, sowing panic and despair there and burdening diplomatic efforts to revive a truce that expired over the weekend.

No one was injured in the barrages, but the attacks took a steeper toll in Gaza as explosives apparently misfired, wounding three civilians and killing two militants. One of the injured civilians works for a conflict resolution center.

Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza, said the bombardment came in retaliation for the deaths of three of its fighters in a clash with Israeli troops late Tuesday. Israel said the …

Astute vacationers know that seeking out less traveled roads canliterally make a big difference in how much they enjoy a trip. Thebeaten tourist path these days is too often a mob scene. The Rangers' celebration and the coronation of Brian Leetch were set. Champagne on ice. Jubilation on tap.

Then, during Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals at Madison Square Garden, New York woke up.

Or maybe it was the Vancouver Canucks who woke up. Maybe they took exception to the preponderance of media blitzing and kibbitzing that predicted an end to the Rangers' 54-year Stanley Cup drought.

It does not take a genius, nor Canucks coach Pat Quinn, to figure out what tactic would put a serious crimp in the Rangers' plans.

Stop Brian Leetch.

Stop him any way you …
